The Kokonas Indastri Koporesen and Pacific Horticultural & Agricultural Market Access Plus signed a Memorandum of Understanding to lengthen their partnership on the 30th of October 2020. Since 2016 PHAMA & KIK started their partnership with an aim to improve the quality of Coconut products in PNG to be of world class standards and also for the Micro Small to Medium Enterprises to access markets with better prices.
One major achievement of the collaboration was the Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points certification of Coconut MSME. KIK acting Managing Director Mr. Alan Aku acknowledged PHAMA Plus for their contribution to the industry and the outcomes of the partnership, such as setting compliance standards of High value coconut products and the HACCP certification for PNG MSME. He confirmed that most of the coconut MSME were operated by women and agreed with PHAMA Plus for their upcoming plans aimed at supporting women in the coconut business.
PHAMA Plus country manager Sidney Suma acknowledged KIK for the teamwork in service delivery and the Australian and the New Zealand government for providing funds to the programs.
Mr. Suma said government agencies must be aware that the donors are there to partner with them to deliver services to the people of PNG. On behalf of the New Zealand High Commission, Mr. James Aipale acknowledged the development in the sector thus far and had guaranteed the two parties that they are ready to fund upcoming projects.
So far four out of sixteen MSME’s had been accredited with the HACCP. PHAMA Plus with KIK continues its progress to ensure that all coconut MSME’s are certified to international standards and provide assistance in market accessibility of High Valued Coconut Products.
